Colorado School of Mines’ new ceramic engineering program is gaining momentum, with student enrollment doubling since its 2023 launch. The program received a boost from alumnus Mike Nagorka’s scholarship for senior ceramic engineering majors, with Jack Dorsey becoming the first recipient in Fall 2024. As one of only three U.S. universities offering this specialized degree, Mines provides unique hands-on experience in four core labs and specialized knowledge that meets growing industry demand for ceramic experts in fields ranging from electronics and aerospace to biomedical applications and quantum computing. The scholarship not only attracts talented students but also helps make this cutting-edge field more accessible to first-generation college students pursuing careers in this versatile discipline.
